A Rant
The doxxing of Nemlei
This is going to be a little bit different from what I usually talk about. There is a problem that has been going around for a few years. This problem, is doxxing. Doxxing, for those of you who aren’t as terminally online as I am, is what happens when random people go out of their way to intentionally find out the personal information of people on the internet who would prefer to remain anonymous. This has been happening for years to various people: political figures, anon accounts, and, more recently, game developers. I am going to talk about the game in question so if by some chance you know what I am talking about and are playing the game, there are spoilers below. You have been warned.
The game developer I am referring to goes by the name Nemlei. Nemlei is a game developer who created a newer game called “The Coffin of Andy and Leyley.” The game is about two siblings, Andrew and Ashley Graves. They start out the game in forced quarantine in an apartment complex because they apparently drank parasite infested water (there is no proof of this it is just what their government says). Over time, you become familiar with the history of the two and realize that they are a bit… screwed up. The game has a dark atmosphere but can also get pretty goofy at times. Now, you may be thinking: Oceanus, what is so problematic about this?
The problem, according to the regular crowd of twitter SJWs, comes because of the dynamic of Andrew and Ashley’s relationship. Ashely is really attached to her brother. She is so attached, that she actually goes out of her way to harass and attempt to murder Andrew’s girlfriends. She actually succeeds in doing this (with Andrew’s hesitant help mind you, he is a bit of a doormat for her) as a younger child when she forced Andrew’s female friend (who had asthma) into a dusty box and locked her in there for the night, resulting in said friends death.
Now all of her psychotic deeds aren’t what triggered this debate. What triggered this debate was the fact that she is attracted to her own brother. Being a murderous psychopath is apparently okay but having thoughts of incest is where woke crowd draws the line for a FICTIONAL STORY. The worst part about it is that it isn’t even central to the plot, what set them off was a vision sequence brought about by the clairvoyance power that Ashley is given by a demon she contracted to help them break out of quarantine because, no joke, two weeks to flatten the curve turned into six months. That’s literally what happened. This game is a meme and I highly recommend it.
So because of the high crime of writing disturbing fictional scenarios, Nemlei was doxxed. This was followed by an announcement by Kit9 saying the following:
The good news is that Nemlei will still be involved with the story writing and art. I expect and hope that her overall vision for the way the story will go will remain unchanged. Even so, this shouldn’t have happened. There has been an annoying trend recently where people think that they can just go in and expose the private lives of others who want to remain anonymous. This is especially true when those anons say, do, or create things that the usual suspects don’t like. The worst part about it is that it was other anons doing the doxxing. So apparently they believe in privacy for themselves but not for Nemlei. Imagine being that big of a hypocrite. They are mad that something that they didn’t like got really popular and decided to take it out on the creator directly while cowering behind a screen.
This is why we in the west cannot have nice things. Someone somewhere will always try and ruin the life of somebody over the stupidest reason. Want to write an original, disturbing, dark story? Better keep it sanitized or else or else the woke morality police will come for you. What these people fail to understand is that it is perfectly acceptable to not like something and leave it at that. Nobody says you have to like it, but just because you don’t like something doesn’t give you the right to invade the privacy of the creator in a desperate attempt to force it to stop.
Honestly, I hope this backfires so hard. Nemlei has already made a ton of money off of the positive reception to this game. I hope she makes a Coffin of Andy and Leley extended universe the likes of which haven’t been seen since Touhou. I hope it gets game of the year. She has my official endorsement.

The biggest hypocrisy being committed by the people who have been most vocal about their distaste for Nemlei and this game is that I'm fairly certain they're the same people that would defend a creative like John Waters or a Lars von Trier, despite the contents of their films being far more transgressive than anything in this game. Or, maybe times have changed and even Pink Flamingos would be too much for them. I think that there's some decidedly feminine, catty, and particularly jealous about the entire affair, too, like you can almost feel the seething resentment from her most vocal detractors over the fact something that they personally dislike and someone they personally hate found success. It feels like the most petty, high-school mean girl bathroom shit-talking imaginable; maybe that's fitting, given what the Western gaming scene has turned into over the years.
